Explore Cleveland: Must-See Attractions in One Day
I’m happy that my work with Crossluxe.com brought me back to Cleveland to meet up with some old friends. I grew up in the area and haven’t been back in several years. I was pleased to see the progress that the Cleveland continues to make. Cleveland, once known as the “Mistake on the Lake,” has returned to its rightful place as a vibrant city rich in culture, art, and culinary delights. If you have 24 hours to explore, here are six must-do activities that showcase the best of Cleveland:
1. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Start your day at the iconic Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a testament to Cleveland’s pivotal role in the music industry. Explore exhibits featuring legendary artists and immerse yourself in the history of rock and roll. The museum’s innovative design and interactive displays reflect the city’s creative spirit and its commitment to honoring musical heritage. I confess to a bias with this one… I have played the guitar my whole life and have visited this museum many times, marveling at the collection of guitars, gear, stage outfits, lyrics and fascinating exhibits.
2. Cleveland Museum of Art
Next, visit the Cleveland Museum of Art, renowned for its extensive collection spanning over 6,000 years. With free admission, you can admire works from ancient artifacts to contemporary masterpieces. The museum’s recent expansions and modernizations symbolize Cleveland’s dedication to cultural enrichment and accessibility.
3. West Side Market
For lunch, head to the historic West Side Market, Cleveland’s oldest public market, operating since 1912. With over 100 vendors, it offers a diverse array of fresh produce, meats, baked goods, and international delicacies. The market’s vibrant atmosphere and architectural beauty make it a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts. Rivaling the great food halls of Rome and Mexico City, this is one of the greatest markets in the World!
4. Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall
If your visit aligns with a performance, attending a concert by the Cleveland Orchestra at the historic Severance Hall is a must. Long recognized globally for its excellence, the orchestra’s performances are a testament to the city’s rich musical legacy and its ongoing commitment to the arts. The grandeur of Severance Hall, with its exquisite architecture, enhances the auditory experience, making it truly unforgettable.
5. Dining in Cleveland’s Culinary Scene
Cleveland’s culinary landscape has flourished, offering a diverse array of dining experiences. Great restaurants can be found in each of Cleveland’s distinct neighborhood, so don’t limit yourself to these. Here are three notable restaurants that exemplify the city’s gastronomic revival:
Marble Room Steaks and Raw Bar
Housed in a magnificently restored historic bank building, Marble Room offers an opulent dining experience featuring prime steaks and fresh seafood, reflecting Cleveland’s blend of history and modern luxury.
LJ Shanghai
Specializing in authentic Shanghainese cuisine, LJ Shanghai provides a cozy atmosphere where patrons can enjoy traditional dishes like soup dumplings and noodle soups, showcasing the city’s growing international culinary scene.
Amba
Offering a menu of spicy Indian small plates, Amba reflects Cleveland’s embrace of diverse flavors and innovative dining concepts, contributing to the city’s dynamic food culture.
6. Cleveland Lakefront
Conclude your day with a leisurely walk along the revitalized Cleveland Lakefront. The scenic views of Lake Erie, coupled with attractions like the Cleveland Metroparks, provide a serene escape within the urban landscape. This area, once emblematic of the city’s struggles, now stands as a symbol of Cleveland’s resilience and commitment to creating vibrant public spaces for both residents and visitors.
Pro Tips: Cleveland is a big city and some of the best attractions are spread out throughout the City’s large footprint. Wear comfortable walking shoes and splurge on Ubers to allow yourself more time to take in all that the Cleveland has to offer.
Like most big cities, Cleveland can’t be fully covered in 24 hours, but these attractions should give you a taste for why so many say “Cleveland Rocks!”.
